Book we are reading:

Range: How generalist triumph in a specialised world

A book which put me at complete ease. I was always under the impression that I had to specialise in something, be the master of something and every day wasted not mastering something was time lost.

This is known as the ‘Tiger Woods’ fallacy.

Whereas the author of this book provides countless examples of people who have experimented (intentionally and unintentionally) with many fields of expertise (THEY GENERALISED) before they found their calling. Their purpose in life.

At which point they often rise to become amongst the best in their field. Once they selected it intentionally.

Examples of people who generalised first (there are a lot more than specialised people) are Roger Federer and Vincent Van Gogh.

So if you are yet to find your purpose, or felt as if you should have found it yet. This book is a calming force.
