When I teach ‘Communicating With Impact™’ through my online programmes, I often describe communication as the ‘new currency’.

The result of your communication evaluation test has shown that the area you need to improve on is:
Connection
I believe that if your objective is to communicate with impact and to influence an individual or a group of people, the most important thing in this category must be developing a strong connection with them.
You will not be able to influence them unless you have created rapport. You will not be able to make an impact on them and leave a strong impression unless they trust you. Creating a connection with the other person is essential.
Equally, if you have not worked through, and built a strong internal connection with yourself, which includes your core beliefs, your core values and the main message that you want to share, then you will also struggle to make a connection with the other person/people you are communicating with.
Equally, if you do make a connection with them, if your message and your outcomes are not clear, they may feel they are not getting value from you, which can lead to a lack of trust, causing them not to want to invest their time or their money into whatever you are offering them.
What you can do to improve today?
To immediately improve this area of connection, I encourage you to first connect with yourself. At this stage, this simply means understanding:
- What are your core values
- What are your core beliefs
Then based on this - the main message you want to share.
The easiest thing to do is journal around these three areas to gain clarity. Extract what is in your mind and put it down on paper. This exercise is not something that can be rushed so my recommendation is to block out a couple of hours for yourself to focus.
For example, when I host a ‘Communicating With Impact™’ live event, the message I want to get across must be in alignment with my core beliefs and values.
Before any event I will personally block out time to evaluate all the key messages I want to get across to the audience. If anything is misaligned I know it will break the connection I have with the audience.
So I ruthlessly remove that message from the live event content. That is a big tip - before a talk, presentation, pitch or any interaction. Do not be afraid to cut anything from your message that you personally do not connect with.
What you can do to improve ALL areas?
Now improving one area is different from total communication mastery. This is because I refer to this area of communication as a ‘component’. This component is then made up of additional ‘sub-components’.
You can see this clearly in the following diagram:
As you can see from the diagram, your result is just one component out of 38 components. This diagram is the complete system - which you'll hear referred to as - ‘Dr Ro’s Total Communication Mastery System™’.
I know what you are thinking - 'I just thought communication was about talking confidently in front of people'.
This is what most people think. And this is because communication is fundamentally overlooked. It's not taught in schools or companies. And it's definetely not taught as a complete system like this anywhere.
For example, to truly create connection. You will need to learn, practice and regularly implement the following sub-components:
- Authenticity
- Style
- Observation
- Rapport
Make a note of these, as you'll focus on these next after you have improved on your result - connection.
What if you don't improve?
Remember I said, this skill is not taught - certainly not to the level it deserves. Think about it, we are taught to read, write and speak. This is very different from being taught how to communicate with impact.
Let’s look at the everyday impact poor communication is having on your life.
Using your result as an example - connection
Have you ever been in a scenario where you have tried to sell your product/service, given a talk, attended a meeting or been a part of a family gathering and felt like you had no connection?
Maybe some of these scenarios ring a bell:
- You’re pitching a client and they seem to become despondent, lose interest or just don’t quite believe what you are saying.
- You are trying to attract someone's interest in you for a date but they just don't seem to connect with you.
- People don’t watch your social media posts for long, click and move on.
- You’ve delivered an important speech to a group of people and immediately afterwards people talk about something else.
- You’re talking to a social group, and find yourself feeling awkward or uncomfortable.
- Maybe when dating, you struggle to get a second date and don’t get a call back.
- You were presenting to an audience and they did not respond well and you just couldn't get into your flow with them.
- You don't seem to make deep connections with people in general.
- You prefer to avoid a conversation with someone than engage in a deeper chat.
Now imagine if you had improved your communication...
What it means to Communicate with Impact?
Imagine, opening a talk or a meeting with a style that immediately grabs people's attention. And as you tackle different subjects you are able to change the perspective for the listener, so that they get a chance to understand your content in a completely different way.
In small rooms, you're able to use your voice effectively, and equally in large auditoriums, you can throw your voice so that even the person in the very back row can hear you. And as the people you are talking to come up with resistance or possible rejection to what you are offering, you handle these situations effortlessly.
This is the power of mastering communication.

I absolutely loved it. Cannot recommend enough. The NLP section and the mind-reading was just out there. It was just awesome. Just learning about that has been really, really helpful and informative and the other thing was being prepared, but don't be prepared down to every single word.
